Estimating a CS2 skin's price from its exact float

The price shown for a skin is usually that of the cheapest copy in its wear. But your copy may not be that one. Depending on its float, it may be worth the lowest price… or much more. Here is how to estimate the value of a specific copy, with examples from real sales.

If float is new to you, start with our float and wear guide.

Same wear, very different prices

The wear name (Factory New, Field-Tested…) is only a float range. Within a range, the cleanest copies often sell for more. A few estimates from our site, recalibrated on prices from 25 October 2026:

SkinFloat at the low end of the rangeTypical float
AK-47 \Redline (Field-Tested)≈ €53 at 0.15≈ €21 at 0.30
AWP \Asiimov (Field-Tested)≈ €227 at 0.18≈ €81 at 0.30
★ Karambit \Fade (Factory New)≈ €1,488 at 0.00≈ €1,428 at 0.03

The gap is huge on some skins and almost zero on others. On the Redline, a copy at 0.15 looks almost new: it sells for more than twice a typical copy. On a Factory New Fade knife, wear is barely visible and the gap stays small.

Floats worth gold

On a few skins, it isn't a low float that makes the price, but a very high one, because wear completely changes the design.

AWP | Asiimov "Blackiimov"

From a float of about 0.90, the white part of the scope is completely worn away and turns black. Players call this copy the Blackiimov, and it sells for much more than an ordinary Battle-Scarred Asiimov:

FloatEstimate (25/10/2026)
0.46 to 0.80≈ €62 (the usual price)
0.90≈ €97
0.93≈ €142
0.95≈ €181
0.97≈ €220

The higher the float goes above 0.90, the more the price climbs: a Blackiimov at 0.97 is worth more than three times a typical Battle-Scarred Asiimov.

Tec-9 | Hades: the skulls

On the Tec-9 | Hades Battle-Scarred, above a float of about 0.97, skulls appear in place of the helmets in the pattern. In the sales we recorded, the weapon sells for around $15 up to 0.96, then $25 to $45 above 0.98, and up to $80 near 1.00.

Our skin pages flag these special zones: a note appears under the wear bar, and the zone is highlighted on the sales chart.

How we estimate price by float

On every skin page with enough data, the "Value by float" block lets you type your copy's float and gives an estimate. Here is how it is calculated:

  1. Real sales. We start from sales recorded on CSFloat, where every sale shows the float of the item sold. Sales with expensive stickers are left out, so that only the effect of float is measured (stickers add little to the price, see our sticker guide).
  2. Neighbours count most. To estimate a float of 0.25, we mostly look at sales around 0.25. A recent sale counts more than an old one.
  3. Outliers are left out. A sale far too expensive for its float (a rare pattern, for example) or far too cheap (a pricing mistake) doesn't distort the curve.
  4. Recalibrated on today's price. The market moves: when the curve drifts too far from today's lowest price, it is adjusted to stay current.
  5. Not enough sales? For expensive skins that rarely sell (many knives and gloves), we add listings for sale on CSFloat and Market.CSGO, converted to a realistic sale price: a listing usually sells a little below its asking price, and we measured that gap on tens of thousands of listings.

On 25 October 2026, 4,957 skins have a float-based estimate on FragPrice, including 2,352 knives and gloves.

The limits of the estimate

  • It doesn't know the pattern. On Case Hardened and Heat Treated skins, the amount of blue depends on the pattern (the "seed") and can multiply the price (the famous "blue gems"). The estimate gives the price of an ordinary copy. See our pattern guide.
  • No estimate for Dopplers. Their price mostly depends on the phase (Ruby, Sapphire…), not the float. See the Doppler phases guide.
  • Nothing outside floats already sold. If your float is lower or higher than all those that have sold, we don't make up a price.
  • It is an estimate. A buyer in a hurry, a badly priced listing or a passing trend can change the real price. Always compare with current listings before buying or selling.

How to use it

  • To sell: type your copy's float in the "Value by float" block of its page, then compare the net you would receive on each site with our sell calculator.
  • For your inventory: paste your Steam profile into the inventory calculator. Each item is estimated from its float, and one click opens its page with the float already filled in.
  • To buy: a low float on a skin where it matters, or a "special" float like a Blackiimov, justifies paying more. On a skin where the gap is small, just take the cheapest.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the price shown on the page lower than my skin's estimate?

The price shown is that of the cheapest copy for sale. If your float is better than that copy's, your skin is normally worth more.

Does the float change when I play?

No. The float is set when the item is created and never changes.

Why doesn't my skin have an estimate?

It needs at least 5 usable sales or listings. Very rare skins, Dopplers and items without a float (agents, stickers, cases) don't have one.
